How to Shine a Silver Chain

A simple accessory like a silver chain adds style to any ensemble, but if it's tarnished or dirty it will likely sit in your jewelry box the next time you go out. Clean the chain with a few household materials you may already have handy. Next time youre ready to dress up and go out your silver chain may very well be the perfect accessory to take along.

Instructions

Clean the Chain with Toothpaste

    1

Apply white toothpaste to a clean, damp toothbrush.

    2

Gently scrub the toothpaste onto the chain with the toothbrush making sure to coat it completely.

    3

Rinse the toothpaste from the chain under warm running water to remove the toothpaste.

    4

Wipe the chain dry with a soft clean cloth. This will help to remove the moisture and restore the shine.

Clean the Chain with Aluminum Baking Soda

    5

Line a pan with aluminum foil. Add two to three inches of water.

    6

Add a teaspoon of table salt and baking soda to the pan.

    7

Bring the water to a boil and gently drop the chain in the water.

    8

Allow the chain to sit in the boiling water for two to three minutes.

    9

Remove the chain from the water and rinse it under running water.

    10

Dry the chain with a clean, dry cloth to eliminate the moisture and restore the shine.
