How to Expand a Ring

Rings can be casual accessories used to dress up your hands, or jewelry pieces that makes a statement --- like wedding rings, which are used on the ring finger of the left or right hand depending on the culture. Sizing a ring properly is essential to wearing it comfortably. If your ring is too big, you can fix the problem yourself by getting a ring guard to make the ring fit more snug. However, if you're looking to expand the ring because it's small, there are several things you need to do to ensure the specialist resizes your ring accurately.

Instructions

    1

Call the jewelry store where you got your ring or call a local jewelry store that provides this type of service. Jewelers at these stores remove a piece from the bottom of the ring by cutting it off, then add a bigger piece in the join to expand the size of the ring. Some rings even come with a join so jewelrers can cut it easily when they want to expand the ring.

    2

Inform the jeweler that you want to expand your ring and provide the necessary information such as the type of ring you have (gold, white gold, srainless steel, platinum), if it has any stones and any other information the jeweler requires.

    3

Get your real ring size at the jewelry store. To get the most accurate measurement, do this when your hand is hot or at the end of the day. Hot weather makes your fingers wider and cold weather narrower.

    4

Examine your ring when it's given back to you and pick it up when your hands are warm to make sure that it fits properly.
