How to Measure Body Jewelry

Body jewelry is quickly becoming a fashion phenomenon. Forget multi pierced ears, now it's tongues, noses, nipples, lips, eyebrows, and anything else that someone can stick a needle into. Piercings in different places require jewelry of different sizes. For instance, a piece of jewelry made for the nose will not properly fit into a belly button piercing. Body jewelry comes in varying lengths and widths and the following steps will tell you just how to measure, so you can purchase the proper size of body jewelry.

Instructions

    1

Decide what part of the body you will be putting the new piece of body jewelry and also decide what type of jewelry you would like to buy.

    2

Measure a barbell's lengthwise from ball to ball. This should be done at the widest area. If it is curved, start the measurements at the widest part of the curve, usually the farthest distance from each ball setting. These pieces are in most cases worn on any part of the body that is pierced.

    3

Measure captive bead rings at the longest inside diameter point. Once again, these are measured with the same idea as the barbell's, but since they are totally enclosed, they must be measured end to end at the longest distance possible, usually mid-circle. These also can be worn just about anywhere.

    4

Size a labret along the shaft, from ball to disc. This type of body jewelry is very easy to measure, but has less uses than the others. Often used to fill a piercing that is known as a "Marilyn," it usually sets just above the lip like a mole would.

    5

Measure a bend-to-fit piece along the shaft. These kind are super versatile and usually for the nose. Use it to adorn the nose and flexible enough to bend into place.
