How to Make a Safety Pin Bead Bracelet

Safety-pin jewelry looks elaborate and complicated and can be surprisingly beautiful. Few attempt to make such bracelets because they appear quite difficult. In reality, they are easy to make--though a bit time-consuming. Once you make one, you will never want to stop until you have an entire jewelry box of safety-pin treasures.

Instructions

    1

Cut two lengths of elastic cord. They should be about a foot long to allow you to tie secure knots, but you will actually only use about 5 inches of the cord for your bracelet.

    2

Thread the colored beads onto the safety pins. You can follow a pattern in order to create stripes or other shapes in your bracelet, or you can just string them randomly. Each time you fill up a pin, snap it shut to keep the beads in place. Be careful not to poke your fingers.

    3

String the pins and the silver beads onto one of the elastic cords. Follow this sequence: silver bead, safety pin head, silver bead, safety pin bottom. This will keep the pins balanced and also keep the crystal beads from knocking against each other. When your bracelet is as long as you want it to be, knot the ends of the elastic cord. Leave as little extra room as possible for the pins to slide around.

    4

Thread the other elastic cord through the other side of your pins. Insert silver beads in between each pin just as you did for the first cord. Tie knots at each end of this cord as well.

    5

Secure your bracelet in a tight circle. Tie the ends of the top elastic cord together and do the same with the ends of the bottom elastic cord. This will keep your pins in a bracelet shape. Now you are ready to wear your bracelet and enjoy the many compliments and comments you receive on it.
