How to Fit a Loose Gemstone in a Ring Setting

Fitting a loose gemstone into a ring setting requires both patience and caution. Rather than having to take your ring to a jeweler, it is possible to fit a gemstone into a ring setting at home using very few tools. After you fix it, you will be left with a beautiful ring either for yourself or someone special in your life.

Instructions

    1

Clear the tabletop you will be working on and lay a clean tablecloth over it to avoid scratching or damaging the gemstone.

    2

Lay the stone face-down on the table.

    3

Gently place the ring's prongs over the stone to make sure it fits over. The fit should seem loose.

    4

Once you have determined that the prongs do fit over the stone, take the needle-nose pliers and gently bend each of the prongs inward. This is to ensure the prongs will fit tightly over the stone.

    5

Push the ring setting gently over the stone while applying some pressure. The stone should now be fit in the ring setting. If it is not, repeat steps 2 to 4 again and make the prongs tighter.

    6

Once the stone is in, gently tighten the prongs over the gem stone by applying some pressure with the needle-nose pliers. Make sure you are not squeezing the prongs, not the stone.
