Your engagement ring is the beginning to your dream wedding and life together after. Make sure you have a ring that you are proud to wear forever by designing it yourself. Follow the steps below to create your own engagement rings.

Instructions

How to Create Your Own Engagement Rings

    1

Purchase or borrow bridal magazines to review for inspiration. If able, tear out the ring designs, or parts of a ring design, you may like to incorporate.

    2

Sit down with your significant other and discuss a budget, important ring attributes (clarity, cut, carat weight, etc.) to be sure you both are on the same page. Make a list, in order of importance, of what you want the engagement ring to have.

    3

Decide if you want the ring to be set in platinum, white gold, yellow gold or another precious metal, such as titanium.

    4

Visit sites, such as TheRightRing.com and BlueNile.com (see Resources), to put together possible ring designs. Print out your designs.

    5

Bring your engagement ring designs to a jeweler you trust. Discuss with her what is important to you: what type of setting, size of diamond, clarity, design, etc. Have her show you diamonds or other precious gems in the price, clarity and carat range that you want. Ask for price approximations for the ring design you may want created.

    6

Ask for the jeweler's opinion on the ring design and your desires. Have her draw up some ideas or suggestions.

    7

Return home with both your and the jeweler's ideas. Discuss and decide what ultimately you are looking for. Call and set up a time to come in and finalize the ring design and begin its creation.

    8

While on the call, ask how payment is to be provided, such as by check, credit card, cash, money order, etc. Suggest a down payment, approximately half the ring's final cost, to be paid upfront with the remainder to be paid upon completion.
