Components of Clip-On Earrings

If you've made the decision not to get your ears pierced or just like them the way nature made them, you may want to wear earrings that clip on. Clip-on earrings are comfortable and easy to find on the Internet. Parts for clip-on earrings are also easy to find online, enabling you to make your own at home.

Screw-On

Screws are one ways clip-on earrings achieve enough tension to stay on the ear. Screw-on earrings are not new; they appear in ancient culture all the way back to Egypt. These earrings are designed with a half-inch rod that has a flat bead on one end and a screw down the center. A counter screw is in the back opening of this U-shaped earring. Tightening the screw secures the earring to the ear lobe. These are durable and can be easily adjusted for the comfort of the wearer.

Spring-Loaded

The spring-loaded clip-on back has a preset tension that keeps the earring in place on the ear by tension from a tiny spring at the hinge base of the earring back. Less obvious than screw-on earrings, spring-loaded, clip-on earrings are popular. These cannot have the tension adjusted, however, and may prove uncomfortable to some wearers. They are often paired with a small, disc-shaped piece of foam that has been adhered to the front half of the earring to ease discomfort.

Magnetic Earrings

Magnetic earrings use a magnet placed behind the earlobe to keep the earring in place on the ear. These are usually high quality neodymium magnets that do not put undue pressure on the ear lobe. Neodymium magnets can be quite small and enable the wearer to wear studs with or without stones without piercing their ears.
