How to Tie Elephant Hair Bracelets

Elephant hair bracelets originated in the tribal areas of Africa and were once made exclusively with elephant hair. Modern elephant hair bracelets are made from wire, leather and, in the case of jewelers, gold and silver. Elephant hair bracelets can be made at home as a craft, but do take an average of 1 to 2 hours of work.

Instructions

Cut a 52-inch piece of 18-gauge wire into four 13-inch pieces with wire cutters.

Cut two 10-inch pieces of 20-gauge wire. This will be used to form the knots.

Tape the four 18-gauge pieces together every 3 inches, placing the wires side-by-side for weaving.

Bend the top of the four strands into an "S" shape with pliers. Repeat this along each of the sections between the tape.

Bend the four wires over your bracelet form so that it will be a circle when finished.

Measure 1 inch into the knot wire and bend it at a right angle.

Feed the long end of the knot wire through either of the loops in the "S" shape.

Wrap the entire wire around the "S" and then bring it back through the other loop.

Take the remaining pieces of the knot wire and wrap them in opposite directions, tucking them so that they meet.

Cut away any of the remaining wire if the knot wire is too long and square up the knot so that the wire pieces are flush with each other.

Brass brush the bracelet to give it a finished appearance.
