Silver jewelry is a popular choice for many buyers due to its inexpensive prices when compared to gold. Silver can also easily be bought by a craftsman and be used to create unique designs. While silver jewelry is cheaper and easier to get than gold, it tarnishes easily and its beauty quickly fades. This can be avoided by cleaning the jewelry on a regular basis, but this becomes more difficult when it contains gems. Here's a simple way to deal with this problem.
Instructions
- 1
Buff the jewelry with a cotton cloth. Often this will rub off any tarnish. It is a better technique than a dip because dips run the risk of taking off the shine from the gems. If the jewelry is still tarnished, you will have no choice but to use a dip.
2Purchase a silver dip. It must specify that it is for silver and not gold. You can also buy chemical cloths that will buff and clean the jewelry (see Resources below). The chemical cloths may be a better option, since you can buff only the silver and not touch the gems.
3Place the jewelry in the dip. Allow the jewelry to only sit for a few seconds. The chemicals work fast, so if the jewelry is left in the dip too long, it could dull the jewelry.
4Rinse the jewelry off with water. Allow the piece to dry. Use a cotton cloth to buff the jewelry.
5Dip the piece in the solution once more. Remove immediately and rinse with water. Buff once more with a cotton cloth.
