Cutting out a photo to place in a locket can be tricky if you don't take your time. If you cut the photo too small, you won't be able to use it in your locket and will have likely wasted the photo. Be patient and follow these simple instructions to fit a picture into a locket.

Instructions

    1

Place the locket behind the portion of the photo that you want to be displayed in the locket. This will give you a starting point for cutting off the excess around the photo. Remember that it is best to start with cutting off too little of the photo rather than cutting off too much.

    2

Draw the outline of locket on the back of the photo. Use a pen or pencil to trace around the outermost border of the locket, rather than than just the portion that will actually serve as the frame around the photo.

    3

Cut off the excess of the photo, leaving the part that you have outlined. Now that the photo is smaller, it will be more manageable to work with. Remember to consistently check the size against the locket.

    4

Cut slowly around the edges of the cut-out photo, taking off only a sliver of photo at a time. Each time you cut off a very small portion of the photo, try to fit the picture into the slot in the locket. This will give you a better idea of how much you still need to trim.

    5

Allow for the photo to be just a little bit bigger than the slot to force the photo in. This is to prevent the picture from sliding around once it has been placed in the locket.
