How to: Peacock Feather Necklace

A peacock feather necklace is a wonderful do-it-yourself craft. While it looks elegant and expensive, it is a rather low-cost and easy piece of jewelry to make yourself. It requires just a small amount of material and less than half an hour. In the end, you will have a beautiful piece that you can wear on both casual and formal occasions.

Instructions

    1

Cut your peacock feather to an appropriate size and shape. Generally, you will want to cut around the "eye," trimming off the larger feathers and leaving a little bit of the feather shaft intact.

    2

Cut a piece of felt slightly smaller than the peacock feather. Attach the felt to the back of the feather by gluing it at the feather's stem, ensuring that the felt cannot be seen from the front. This will give your feather some weight and provide an anchor to attach the leather strap.

    3

Measure the length of leather cord so your feather will hang at the desired height. Cut the cord and glue both ends to the back of the felt. Hold in place until dry. Cut a smaller piece of felt and glue it over the cord on the back of the feather to hold it in place.

    4

Cut the top of the cord loop and tie each end to the jewelry clasp. You should now be able to open and close the necklace as desired.
