How to Make Earrings From a Snuff Can Lid

If you want to add some flair and individuality to your wardrobe, try making your own earrings to add some flair and individuality to your look. The right accessory can really pull an outfit together, and a pair of earrings made out of household objects have just the right amount of trendy irony. The lid of a snuff, or ground inhaling tobacco, can is roughly the size of a large hooped earring, and many come with interesting art.

Instructions

    1

Use an metal hole punch to cut a hole in the lid for the earring wire. Hole punches can be purchased at most office supply stores and are designed for creating perfectly round holes in paper. The metal, single hole punch type is made strong enough to easily cut through a snuff can lid made of aluminum, tin or plastic.

    2

Take a spool of earring wire, which can be purchased at most craft stores or through online jewelry supply retailers, and cut a length of wire approximately 2 inches long. Cut the wire flush so that there are no sharp ends to poke you.

    3

Bend the tip of the wire into a hook with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Thread the hook through the hole in the lid. Use the pliers to close the hook into a loop to secure the lid.

    4

Go up the wire and create a gentle U-bend in the wire. This U-bend is where the earring will thread through your ear, so the higher up you go on the wire, the lower the earring will hang.
