How to Clean Wire Wrap Jewelry

Dirt and grime can get into the fine coils of wire-wrapped jewelry, and it can be tricky to get the dirt out from between the tightly wrapped coils. Abrasive cleaners may ruin the wires or stones that are set in the piece of jewelry, and the stones can have reactions to some cleaners. Safe methods are available for you to use to keep your wire-wrapped jewelry shinning.

Instructions

    1

Put a dab of dishwashing liquid on a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush the wire-wrapped jewelry with it. Brush in between the wrappings and nooks where dirt can accumulate.

    2

Run hot water from your sink and rinse the piece of jewelry well under the water. The force of the water will help to remove the dirt from your wire-wrapped jewelry. Rinse all the soap off.

    3

Pat the piece dry with a soft towel.

    4

Rub the wire-wrapped jewelry with a jewelry polishing cloth that has been pre-applied with jewelers rouge to get rid of tarnish. Wipe the whole piece with it.

    5

Buff the piece of jewelry with a polishing cloth. Try not to touch the piece with your fingers or you will leave fingerprints on it, just touch it with the cloth.

    6

Store your wire-wrapped jewelry in a cool dark place such as a jewelry box.
