How to Clean Sapphire Crystals

Sapphire crystals have a blue hue and appear in many pieces of jewelry. They are often seen as the centerpiece of a ring or necklace charm. Because this type of jewelry is often inexpensive and appropriate for everyday wear, it can become grimy and in need of a cleaning. Luckily, the cleaning process is simple and quick. This is something that can be done by just about anybody right at home.

Instructions

    1

Wipe clean the surface of the sapphire with a clean, dry cloth. This will remove any loose dirt and debris that has collected on the surface of the crystal. Focus on any crevices or tight spots on the piece as they will be the areas most likely to collect grime.

    2

Dip a soft bristle brush into jewelry cleaner. Scrub the surface of the sapphire with the bristle brush and the jewelry cleaner to remove any built-up dirt that was not removed with the clean cloth.

    3

Rinse the sapphire crystal thoroughly under warm water to remove the jewelry cleaner.

    4

Soak the sapphire crystal in warm water. Pour warm water into a small bowl. Place the sapphire crystal into the bowl for at least 10 minutes to remove any residue left over from the jewelry cleaner. Residue could dull the appearance of the sapphire.

    5

Remove the sapphire from the warm water with your hand. Examine the surface of the sapphire for any residue. If any parts of the sapphire appear dull, soak it for several more minutes. Change the water before soaking the piece again.

    6

Dry the sapphire with a clean, dry cloth to remove all water drops. Water left on the surface of the sapphire could leave water spots and ruin the appearance of the sapphire.
