Making your own jewelry can be a rewarding hobby for people of all ages. If you lack the time and knowledge it takes to purchase all of your jewelry-making supplies separately, you may want to purchase a kit. With a kit, you'll have all of the beads, wires and clasps to make your own rings, bracelets and necklaces. You can find kits in craft stores, art-supply stores and online. Before purchasing a jewelry-making kit, be sure that you have the tools needed to create your own jewlery.

Instructions

    1

Invest in a high-quality jewelry tool kit. Look for a kit with a ratcheting screwdriver, pliers, a mini-magnifying glass and a jewelry knife. Look for pliers that are spring loaded, as this allows for better control when working with small parts. Purchase the kit from your local craft store or online (see Resources).

Purchase a jewelry-making kit from WigJig.com. The online retailer sells kits for making gemstone bracelets and necklaces, pearl jewelry--- and jewelry consisting of wire and beads. The beginner's wire-and-beads kit includes an instructional DVD.

If you're buying a jewelry kit as a gift for a child, check out the Sparkle Jelly Jewelry Kit for Kids (see Resources). The kit contains colorful glass beads, sparkle tubes, wire and jewelry pliers. There are enough materials in the kit to make 20 rings and 36 bracelets.

Browse the jewelry-making kits at eeBeads.com. The website sells bead kits that contain all of the wires, beads and pins needed to make your own bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Many of the kits contain a wide variety of beads, such as bone, wood, horn, glass and ceramic.
