How do I Send Diamonds to GIA for a Report?

Diamonds are a significant investment, and it is essential for insurance and personal peace of mind to have your gems evaluated for indisputable proof of their value. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is an educational institution. They also provide gem grading for anyone who requests their services. The GIA's grading system is an invaluable resource and employing their services is a straightforward process.

    Complete Client Agreement-Principle Account form. Contact the GIA directly to begin the process and obtain a copy of the form. Return the signed signature page with your first shipment.

    Prepare a memo or invoice detailing the weight, shape, value and service requested for each stone. Send the memo with your shipment.

    Document your full return address information to include in the shipment, as well.

    Place each item in a parcel paper mailer or other durable container. The packaging must not include any identifying commercial information, like a business name.

    Ship the package via USPS Registered Mail or armored courier service.

    Register the package via the carrier for full value insurance.

    Mail diamonds under four carats to: GIA Laboratory 5355 Armada Drive Carlsbad, CA 92008.

    Mail diamonds over four carats to: GIA Laboratory 580 Fifth Avenue, Suite 200 New York, NY 10036.
