Laminated picture necklaces were made famous by Tom Binns in 2009, with his "Get Real" collection featuring laminated pictures of jewels retailing for more than $100. You can design your own picture necklace by clipping out pictures you like from magazines and assembling them on a thin piece of cardboard. Then take your picture necklace to an office-supply store to get it laminated, or do it yourself at home with pieces of clear packing tape.
Instructions
- 1
Gather old fashion magazines and cut out pictures of jewels, pearls, necklaces or anything that suits your tastes.
2Trim the pictures carefully with scissors or a craft knife.
3Lay the pictures in an oval shape on a thin piece of cardboard or a file folder.
4Glue the pictures into their final positions by dabbing the back of each with a glue stick. Use a light touch when applying the glue. This is only to keep them in place while you laminate them with tape. Too much glue will wrinkle the pictures.
5Create a laminated effect on the necklace by covering the pictures with clear packing tape. Turn over the cardboard and cover the back with tape as well.
6Cut the oval shape out of the cardboard with scissors. Trim intricate edges with a craft knife if necessary.
7Snip through the top of the necklace with the scissors. Cut out a 1-inch piece of Velcro tape. Stick one side of the tape to the left side of the necklace and the other side of the tape to the right side of the necklace. Allow the ends of the tape to overlap where you made the cut in the necklace.
8Put the necklace around your neck and join the Velcro pieces like a clasp.
