How to Remove a Captive Belly Button Ring

There are three different types of belly button rings, all with varying styles. The captive belly button ring is one of those types. The captive navel ring holds a decorative bead in its center, which is held in place by tension. There is no need to consult a professional if you want to remove the belly button ring, nor must you cut the ring out. You can remove a captive belly button ring by yourself if you have the proper tools.

Instructions

    1

Wrap the tips of the ring-expanding pliers with band-aids. The band-aids will stop the pliers from damaging the belly button ring and your stomach if they are to slip while in use. If you do not have any band-aids, tape will suffice.

    2

Put on your latex gloves. The gloves will help to prevent infection in the belly button area. Even if the skin around your belly button ring area has healed, wearing gloves is still a good idea.

    3

Hold the base of the captive belly button ring to keep it from moving.

    4

Insert the tip of the ring-expansion pliers inside the circle of the ring and squeeze the handles. Continue to squeeze as the captive button ring widens and the ball falls out. Set the belly button ring ball aside.

    5

Release the pliers and twist the captive belly button ring forward until is slides from the navel. If you are having difficulties, apply a small amount of oil to the belly button ring.
