How to Clean a Platinum Diamond Ring With Alcohol

Platinum is a popular material used in jewelry because of its strength, beauty and durability. Platinum is generally stronger than white gold, which makes it a much more attractive option for wedding bands, earrings and pendants alike. Cleaning platinum jewelry that contains diamonds can be accomplished at home with rubbing alcohol. The jewelry will become clean, the diamond will remain safely in its setting and money will remain in your pocket by utilizing this method.

Instructions

    1

Mix 1 cup of lukewarm water and 1/4 cup of ammonia in a small bowl.

    2

Soak the ring in the solution for 20 minutes.

    3

Clean off the ring with a soft cloth until it is completely dry.

    4

Place the ring into a bowl that is filled with rubbing alcohol. Allow it to sit for a few seconds, remove the ring and rinse it off with cool water. Allow the ring to air dry.

    5

Store the ring by in a separate compartment in a jewelry box. To prevent the ring from being scratched, wrap in with a piece of paper first.

    6

Take the ring to a jeweler once a year to have the setting inspected. The jeweler will be able to reset the stone, if necessary, and look for any scratches that may not be visible to the naked eye.
