How to Photograph Earrings

You can make your photographs of earrings stand out by using unusual angles and composition. Rather than take a picture of the item by itself on a blank counter, consider a more creative approach by adding a person to the picture. This allows you to frame a pair of earrings in a person's ears and focus on different aspects as you change the camera angle. Zoom in to highlight the details or focus on a specific feature of the earring.

Instructions

    1

Identify the earrings you want to photograph. Find a location that is well lit for the pictures. Set up your location with props.

    2

Ask a friend to be your model. Ask her to style her hair in a way that exposes her ears and have her manicure her hands.

    3

Seat her on the stool. Walk around taking pictures of her looking at the earrings in the box while they are on the table. Have her pick the box up as you zoom in, and take pictures of the earrings and her face.

    4

Direct her to take the earrings out of the box individually as you walk around her snapping pictures. Tell her to hold both earrings in her hand, and then hold the earrings between her finger and thumb.

    5

Snap pictures as she inserts the earrings. Pose her to hold the earrings right next to her ears as you zoom in for the shot. Take pictures of the earring in the one ear, then in both ears.

    6

Give her a hand mirror. Take a picture of her admiring her earrings in the mirror. Zoom in to take pictures of the earring reflected in the mirror.
