How to Find Your Ring Size

Learning your ring size is a vital step in ensuring that you are happy with your new ring. A band that is too tight will cause the flesh around the ring to bulge, while a ring that is too loose will spin and slide. Determining the appropriate ring size is necessary whether you are purchasing a cocktail ring for yourself or an engagement ring for your girlfriend. This is especially important if you prefer to order a ring rather than try it on in a shop.

Instructions

    1

Measure your finger at the end of the day when your hands are warm. Hands tend to fluctuate slightly in size as the day goes on. Therefore, it is important to find your ring size at this point in the day; doing otherwise may lead to discomfort.

    2

Wrap the tape measure around the base of the finger where you intend to wear the ring. Pull the tape measure taut, ensuring that you can still remove it comfortably. The tape measure should not cut off your circulation or fall easily from your finger. Tape the measuring tape in place around the circumference of your finger and shake your hand to ensure that it doesn't come off.

    3

Record the circumference of your finger, beginning at zero and finishing at the point where zero meets the measuring tape. Record this measurement in millimeters, as ring sizes are very precise. Use the smallest increment available on your metric tape measure.

    4

Convert the measurement into your ring size. If ordering your ring, consult a ring size conversion chart as measurements vary by country. Select the larger of the two ring sizes if your measurement falls between two.
