Gemstones make a colorful addition to any piece of jewelry and come in a wide range of types. When looking for a special ring, whether for an engagement, wedding or gift to yourself, you may not find what you're looking for. Designing your own gemstone ring allows you to add a bit of your own personality to the jewelry. While it can be helpful to have a background in drawing, it's not necessary.
Instructions
- 1
Consult with the jewelry maker who will create your ring after you design it. Ask questions to help you determine a price. Knowing approximate prices beforehand will help you in the design process as you'll have an idea of the gemstone sizes you can afford.
2Decide on the type of metal and number of gemstones you'll include in the ring.
3Decide on any engravings and embellishments you want to add. By now, you probably have a picture in your mind of how you want your gemstone ring to look.
4Sketch your design on paper using colored pencils if you're a skilled artist. Make the sketch as large as possible so the jewelry maker can see the details. On the same sheet of paper, write the type of metal and gemstones you wish to use next to the ring.
5Write as detailed a description as possible if you aren't comfortable drawing your design on paper.
6Bring your gemstone ring design to the jewelry maker and go over all the details with him so he can bring your design to life.
