Cubic zirconia (CZ) often is a gorgeous substitute for real diamonds. It is impossible for the naked eye to distinguish any difference between it and a true diamond. Rings with CZ settings are just as beautiful and elegant as other diamond jewelry, yet the cost is much less. The hard stone and band will give you a lifetime of enjoyment if given the proper care. Designing your own ring involves the shape of your hand, your lifestyle and your own personal style.
Instructions
- 1
Choose the shape of your CZ stone. If the shape of your hand is wide and you want your ring to lengthen its look, choose an oval, marquise or a slender pear shape to elongate the width of your hand. Alternately, even a rectangle or emerald cut will work if its proportions are slender.
2Try on different styles of rings at jewelry stores. This will familiarize you with what looks best on your hand.
3Select whether you want a white or yellow gold band. White gold has a silver look to it and yellow gold is a gold tone. Many people wear both types of gold while others only wear one.
4Determine the width of your band. A slender band might be perfect for you if you have a small, petite hand shape. Alternately, wider bands look better on people with slender hands and long fingers.
5Choose the type of ring you want. You might have your heart set on an antique setting, a traditional style or something that looks more contemporary. Typically, women with large hands and strong bones look more natural with a multilevel setting and larger band than someone who has a tiny hand.
6Sketch a design on a sheet of paper or draw one using a computer graphics program. Take the design to a jeweler and talk about options as far as engraving, accent stones and size.
