How to Make a Photo Small Enough to Fit into a Locket

A locket is a small piece of jewellery, commonly worn as a necklace, which has a picture of a family member of loved one in it. In the past, developed photos where cut down to fit; but with digital photography and home printers, a much more detailed picture can be used. This means the picture can include more than just the face of the person -- and as the photo is being shrunk, there is no loss in quality.

Instructions

    1

Open photograph in the photo editing software. No actual editing will be done on the photograph, so this does not need to be expensive software: Windows Paint should suffice.

    2

Select the print icon and go to printing options. Choose to print the photograph as a passport photo. It is best to print off a few copies on the same sheet, in case a mistake is made during cutting. Alternatively, reduce the scaling in the same options area. The correct scaling will be achieved by trial and error, as it depends on the size of the photograph.

    3

Print the photo on high gloss photograph paper. This can be bought from any computer supply shop. As the picture is being shrunk, the details will not blur in the same way as it can when expanding a picture.

    4

Cut out the photo using the scissors or craft knife around the natural border.

    5

Place the plastic insert from the back of the locket over the back of the photo and trace around the edge with a pencil. If the plastic insert is not available, trace around the inside of the locket with a piece of paper and then transfer that template to the photograph.

    6

Insert the picture into the locket.
