Claddah or claddagh rings are an old Irish design and date back to the 17th century. The design features two hands holding a heart with a crown on top of it and symbolizes friendship, love and loyalty. Because of these meanings, claddah rings have been given as gifts to lovers and friends alike. There is a meaning behind how it is worn that indicates the relationship status of the person who bears it.

Relationship Status and the Claddah Ring
- 1
A claddah ring with the heart pointing up the arm indicates that the person is in a relationship. This could indicate marriage or that the person is dating.
2If the claddagh ring's heart is pointed outward, then this indicates the person is unmarried. This could mean that the person is either engaged or single.
3Wearing the claddah ring on the right hand indicates that the person is not married or engaged. If the heart is pointing inward and worn on the right hand, then this indicates the person is dating someone but not about to be married.
4When the claddah ring is worn on the left hand, this indicates a much more serious relationship. With the heart pointing outward and worn on a left ring finger, the person is signaling that engagement. If the heart is pointing inward, the wearer is married.
