How to Size a Gold Ring

Gold rings are popular pieces of jewelry for both men and women. Some rings, such as wedding or engagement rings, are held in high regard because of their symbolic meaning. Therefore, ensuring that rings fit your finger properly is very important. If a ring is too loose, it is in danger of falling off and being lost. On the other hand, if a ring is too small, it will not be comfortable to wear. Sizing a gold ring is the best way to ensure a ring is enjoyed and displayed to its full potential.

Instructions

    1

Determine the current size of your ring by comparing it to a ring chart. Ring charts can be found online via a search engine. One of the easiest charts to use is the one provide by online auction site, eBay. Most jewelry stores also have charts on hand. To measure your ring, hold up your ring to a circle on the chart to determine its match. Make sure that the outer edge of the circle matches the inner edge of the actual ring. Write down the number of the circle.

    2

Print off a finger measurer from eBay or another ring chart site and cut around the edges. Wrap the measurer around your ring finger with the numbers facing outwards. When the finger measurer is snuggly in place where your ring should sit, take note of the number on the finger measurer.

    3

Compare the two numbers you have recorded, the number of the circle your ring matched up with and the number that your finger measurer recorded. Most of the time, rings can be sized or adjusted two sizes up or down. If the numbers you recorded differ by more than two sizes, adjusting your ring could hinder both the structure and appearance of the ring. If this is the case, you may wish to get your ring adjusted by a professional jeweler.
