How to Make Hypo-Allergenic Earrings

Elements commonly found in earrings, like nickel, can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive ears. Sometimes, earrings in stores aren't labeled with the metal they're made of, making it risky to buy them if you have sensitive ears. Making your own hypo-allergenic earrings is an easy alternative to show off your creativity and sense of style.

Instructions

    1

Slide one bicone onto one of your head pins. Then, thread on one sterling silver bead on top. Headpins, bicone and sterling silver beads are available at fabric and bead stores.

    2

Take hold of the chain nose wire cutter. Make a simple loop. Grab the wire directly above the sterling silver bead and turn it 90 degrees.

    3

Hold the side cutter on the bent head pin about 5 mm from the earring. Cut off the excess wire.

    4

Grab the round nose wire cutter and place it on the headpin. Create a loop by twisting the wire backward. Do not close the loop or you won't be able to fit in the French ear wire.

    5

Slip the earring onto the loop of the French ear wire. Close the open end of the earring loop by twisting it further with the round nose wire cutter.

    6

Repeat all steps with the other head pin and beads.
