Crystal jewelry is beautiful, elegant and sparkling. The best way to maintain your jewelrys shine is by keeping it clean. Crystals cannot be cleaned using the same polishing cloths designed for silver jewelry; this will actually dull the crystal. Also, most crystal jewelry has a thin coating that not only protects the stone, but also gives it extra shine. When cleaning crystal that has been set into silver jewelry, it is important to use both silver cleaning and crystal cleaning methods.
Instructions
- 1
Wipe your crystal jewelry clean using a damp cloth. This will remove any body oils, lotions and fingerprints. Let dry.
2Buff the silver part of the jewelry using a chemically treated polishing cloth to remove tarnish. Avoid touching the crystals with the cloth, since the abrasive material could scratch them or dull the shine. Many companies make these types of cloths, including Sunshine, Fuller Brush and Italian Charms. They typically can be purchased in jewelry stores.
3Mix a few drops of standard window cleaner with 1 tbsp. of water.
4Dip a cotton swab into the diluted window cleaner and softly wipe away dirt, oil or fingerprints on the crystal. Using a cotton swab will allow you reach tight spaces in between crystals.
5Lay the jewelry on a clean cotton cloth to dry overnight. Then wrap it in jeweler tissue to protect against tarnish and store it in an airtight plastic jewelry bag. This will protect the jewelry from getting scratched by other jewelry.
