How to Care for Red Coral Jewelry

Red coral jewelry has an attractive, vibrant color many people find beautiful. Red coral jewelry is delicate and requires special care to keep it looking its best. Without the proper care, the coral can scratch and discolor. Extensive use of the jewelry during strenuous activities can cause the pieces of coral to crack or separate from the jewelry. The extra work is well worth it when you get to enjoy the unmarred jewelry for years.

Instructions

    1

Wet a microfiber cloth in warm water and wring it out until it is only slightly damp. Use a white cloth so the coloring cannot stain the soft coral. Gently rub the coral with the cloth to remove dirt and debris and allow the jewelry to air dry.

    2

Check the jewelry for loose stones while you clean it. If you find a loose stone, do not attempt to fix it yourself. Take it to a trusted jeweler to make the repair.

    3

Store your coral jewelry pieces in a red velvet-lined boxes without piling them. Store loose coral gems in separate red velvet bags so they can't scratch against anything. Place the jewelry in a secure spot where it won't move.

    4

Don your jewelry only after you apply your cosmetic products. Getting makeup and hairspray on the coral will ruin your red coral. Don't let the jewelry touch your clothing or it may leave scratches due to the coarse fibers of the clothes.

    5

Never set your coral jewelry on a hard or coarse surface. Coral is excessively soft and cannot withstand harsh treatment, so always handle the jewelry as if it is delicate glass.
