How To Add a Charm on Link Bracelets

Charms are popular adornments that often have personal significance to those who wear them. People purchase charms to represent their travels, their hobbies, their accomplishments and other significant moments in their lives. The most common way to wear a charm is on a bracelet; in fact, charm bracelets, which are bracelets made up of many links, are designed especially to hold large assortments of charms. You can add a charm, however, to any type of bracelet that features links.

Instructions

    1

Unfasten the link bracelet and lay it out on a flat surface. Determine where on the bracelet you want to attach the charm. Designate the precise link that you want the charm to dangle from.

    2

Examine the charm you want to add to your bracelet. See if it has a jump ring---a small metal ring that can be opened and closed with pliers---attached to it. Note that the jump ring will typically be pushed through a small hole in the charm or attached to it with solder. If your charm already has a jump ring, open the ring slightly with pliers and skip to Step 5.

    3

Purchase a jump ring to add to your charm if it does not already have one. Select a jump ring in a metal that matches the alloy of your charm, such as gold or sterling silver. Find jump rings at bead and jewelry-supply stores.

    4

Open the jump ring with pliers. Push it through the small hole in your charm, or, if your charm has a ring attached to it but that ring does not open or close, slip the jump ring through that ring. Leave the jump ring open.

    5

Slip the open jump ring onto the link of your bracelet from which you want the charm to hang. Attach the charm so that it faces outward when you wear the bracelet.

    6

Close the jump ring completely using pliers.
