DIY Ribbon and Chain Necklaces With Charms

Save your cash by repurposing spare chain necklaces and bracelet charms into a chic ribbon and chain necklace. Wear your fashion-forward necklace long over a boring blouse or plain T-shirt for an instant up style. Share your handmade jewelry with friends for inexpensive gifts that look like they cost a fortune. This uncomplicated project can inspire you to create dozens of necklaces to coordinate with your entire wardrobe. You can also switch out the colors of ribbon and types of charms within minutes for a change of style.

Instructions

    1

Stack three chain necklaces including a 12-inch, 14-inch and 16-inch chain. Attach one end of the necklaces to a 1-inch jump ring. Use a second 1-inch jump ring to secure the other end of each of the necklaces.

    2

Pull one of the jump rings open. Add two to five charms typically used for a charm bracelet to the ring, depending on the charms' sizes and shapes. Use charms in a theme, such as sports or nature-inspired themes, or choose charms based on color or shape, such as a holiday theme or to match an outfit.

    3

Cut two 18-inch lengths of 1-inch-wide satin ribbon. Use a coordinating or contrasting color to go with the charms. Thread each length of ribbon through each of the jump rings. Pull each ribbon halfway through the ring. Tie a knot in each ribbon, which is flush to each jump ring, to secure the ribbons to the chains.

    4

Hold the necklace up around your neck to determine how long you want to make the necklace. Tie the four ends of the ribbons into a bow to complete the necklace.
