An anniversary band, or any special ring, is a popular gift for both women and men on the occasion of an important anniversary or other milestone, such as the birth of a child or a move to a new home.

Symbolism

A couple may choose to exchange anniversary bands as tokens of their lasting love. The three-stone anniversary band is often seen to symbolize the "past, present and future" of a married couple. Eternity bands are said to symbolize eternal or everlasting love, according to Royal Jewelers, a family-owned jewelry store in Louisville, Kentucky.

Types of Stones

Diamonds are by far the most popular stone for anniversary rings. But other precious stones such as sapphires, rubies and emeralds, or birthstones with special significance to a couple may also be chosen.

Prong Setting Styles

An anniversary band with three stones of the same size in a prong setting is one of the most popular choices, according to Abazias Diamonds, an online diamond jewelry store. The same ring, but with five or even seven diamonds, may be chosen by couples who have been together for 25 years or more, with each diamond representing five years of marriage.

Eternity Rings

Another popular style of anniversary band is the eternity or infinity ring, with small diamonds or other stones set in a metal channel, either across the top of the ring or around the entire band.

How To Wear

Some women choose an anniversary band that compliments their engagement ring and wedding band, and wear all three rings on the ring finger of their left hand. Others use the anniversary band to replace their wedding and/or engagement ring, or may wear it on the right hand.
