Instructions for Music Note Friendship Bracelets

There are two varieties of friendship bracelets, the interwoven pattern style and the independent knot style. The independent knot style is ideal for creating unique images in the bracelet, as it allows the weaver to select specific colors whenever they are needed. Using this technique, a weaver can write a name, weave shapes, or even musical notes. Following a few simple steps, even inexperienced friendship bracelet weavers can created one-of-kind music note friendship bracelets.

Instructions

    1

Plan the design of the bracelet on the graph or grid paper. Note the exact location of each knot in the design, like pixels in a computerized image. A music note is about six to eight knots across and about 10 dots down, forming two vertical columns. At the bottom of the musical notes, create a circle of knots about 3 dots across.

    2

Select the colors for the design, and then cut each string into lengths of approximately three feet. Use as many strings as you like; more strings will result in a thicker bracelet. Most friendship bracelets use 10 strings.

    3

Tie the strings together at one end to create a knot, then tape or bind this end of the bracelet to a table to free your hands.

    4

Knot the background color for several columns of knots before adding the music note pattern.

    5

Alternate the color for the music note with the background color whenever one of the colored knots appears in your pattern. Use left-side knots to bring forth the foreground color.

    6

Complete the pattern on your design, adding as many musical notes as you like.

    7

Tie a knot into the other end of the bracelet to complete the pattern.
