When broken glass falls into a large body of water, it gets tossed around and agitated by waves and sand. This wears away the sharp edges and gives the glass a frosted texture. The glass might eventually wash up on beaches. Many people find sea glass to be visually attractive, and it is used in jewelry pieces. One simple way to make an object into jewelry is to wrap it in wire, which functions as the setting.

Instructions

    1

Wrap the sea glass in the desired design using a piece of string.

    2

Measure the length of string you used.

    3

Cut a piece of wire to this length.

    4

Place the wire between the jaws of round-nosed pliers. Position the pliers about one-third of the wire's length from the end. Cross the ends of the wire to form a loop. Twist of the wire around the loop, forming a noose-like spiral. This will be the bail, which is the loop from which the pendant or earring will be suspended.

    5

Place the very end of the shorter side of the wire between the jaws of the round-nosed pliers.

    6

Twist the pliers to turn the end of the wire into a small loop. Pull the pliers out of the loop.

    7

Place the loop between the jaws of flat-nosed pliers so that the jaws are parallel to the wire. Twist the wire around the loop so that it forms a tight coil in the desired size.

    8

Wrap the non-coiled end of the wire horizontally around the piece of sea glass, leaving enough wire for another coil.

    9

Create another coil in the same way as before using the remaining wire.

    10

Bend the wire so that both coils are on the front of the piece of sea glass. Press them tightly against the sea glass.
