There are many different types of earrings you can make, from earrings that dangle to loop earrings to simple studs. Making your own earrings allow you to have full creative freedom to produce the look and style of earrings that look great with your face. Earrings you make yourself also make terrific gifts once you get the art of making earrings down pat. One of the more popular types of earrings that people make are ones that dangle.

Instructions

    1

Choose the pattern of beads you want to put on your earrings. Choose the type and color as well as which order the beads will go on. When you've done this, put the beads on the pin. The pin should be straight with a small bottom on it to hold the beads in place. If you're making earrings with charms on the bottom, you'll want an eye pin. If you are not making charm earrings, a regular headpin will work.

    2

Ensure that you have enough room to bend the top of the pin so that it will fit into your ear easily. If you don't, take a bead or two off. You can either do this or get a longer pin if you're really passionate about the way you want your earring pattern to look.

    3

Bend the top of the pin into almost a complete circle. You can either do this with pliers or with your hands. You can also buy pins that have been pre-bent for this purpose. Make sure the pin is round enough to fit into your ear; but you should make sure also that there's enough room for the earring to go around your ear.

    4

Try the earrings on. You'll want to experiment with only one first so that you don't need to go back and redo both of them if one doesn't work out. It is better to do one at a time.

    5

Find a back for your earring. You can either buy the usual backings for earrings like these. You can also make your own. Most people do this with something such as an eraser. It's a soft material that can be penetrated by the earring back but it won't slide off easily.
