If you're an avid jewellery maker or even a complete novice, you need to have the appropriate tools to make the job easier. If you have a good gem holder, your jewellery production is much easier and you'll be able to finish pieces quickly.
Instructions
- 1
Use the gem holder that is most comfortable for you. You can find holders with two to six prongs, or you can use one that is a loop. The easiest to use is the pronged gem holder when you make jewellery.
2Push the plunger in. The claws come out of the opposite side. Place the claw over the top of the gemstone if there are four or more prongs. Place the two clawed gem holder around the girdle of the gem if you are using that type. Any type of gem holder gives a much more secure grip than tweezers.
3Release the plunger and the gem remains secure in the claws. If you're using a loop gem, holder the process is similar, except you put the loop around the gem or bead.
4Place the gem snugly in its setting. Push the plunger down and the prongs or loop opens to gently release the gem in position.
5Lay the gem and gem holder aside when you are making jewellery. If you're interrupted by a phone call or a child with a problem, you don't have to go through the whole process of picking up the gem again. The gemstone remains in the gem holder until you choose the moment to push the plunger to release it.
