Whether you are insuring your ring or you want to make sure you got a good deal on the ring you have, you can appraise a ring online. Appraisal of a ring online at home is the most basic form of jewelry appraisal and does not require any schooling or certifications on your part, but it does require research.
Instructions
- 1
Locate the receipt for the ring you are appraising if it was purchased. Make note of the purchase amount and date it was purchased.
2Determine the cut and type of stone used in the ring, if any. Make note if your ring is a diamond or other type of gemstone as well as the cut. Most gemstones are cut in princess, oval, pear, marquise, emerald, radiant and heart designs.
3Examine the band of the ring for the type of material used to create it. Rings are typically made from platinum, silver or a form of gold. Verify the weight of the material and stone used on the ring by weighing the item on a jeweler's gram scale.
4Look closely at the gemstones and material for the band. Make note of any imperfections such as scratches, cloudiness in the gemstones or missing stones.
5Begin your online search by locating similar rings or the same ring online through jewelry websites. Make note of the current market price for rings similar in material to your ring. Visit websites that are auctioning or selling used rings similar to yours for an accurate "used" price.
6Visit gold and silver buyer websites and use their price lists or calculator tools to price out the value of your ring if you were to sell it based on its weight.
