How to Hide a Pierced Lip

In order to get a piercing without parental consent in the United States, you must be at least 18 years of age. However, even though you are legally allowed to go out and get a piercing, it doesn't necessarily mean your parents will be overly pleased if you come back sporting a lip ring. Fortunately, you can disguise a lip piercing and other piercings using a retainer. Retainers are clear, plastic barbells that are placed inside the piercing. They are almost invisible unless scrutinized carefully.

Instructions

    1

Purchase a lip retainer that is the same diameter as your original piercing. This will prevent the hole in your lip from changing shape when you put the retainer in --- it will keep the piercing exactly the same as when it was first pierced.

    2

Remove your original lip piercing and set the jewelry aside for later use.

    3

Unscrew the end of the clear lip retainer and apply a small amount of lubricant so that the retainer will enter the piercing smoothly.

    4

Look into a mirror and gently push the barbell through the hole. It should fit perfectly. If it is too tight -- or doesn't go in at all -- you have purchased the wrong sized retainer for the job.

    5

Screw the end back onto the clear retainer.
