Tanzanite is a gemstone that ranges in color from a pure rich blue to a violet blue. It is only found in one area in Tanzania, hence the name. It is a recent discovery and has only been on the market for around 40 years, but has established itself as one of the most valuable colored stones. Originally valued as a substitute for top-grade Ceylon sapphires, the gem has developed a following of its own. It has a hardness rating of 6.5 on the Mohs scale, which makes it a softer stone more suited for earrings or necklaces, but it can be used in rings and bracelets if treated properly. Cleaning white gold and tanzanite jewelry is not hard.
Instructions
- 1
Add dish detergent to warm water and place the jewelry in it. Let it soak for a few minutes.
2Wet a soft toothbrush and brush the jewelry, being sure to get under the stone setting to clean the stone and restore the liveliness to the tanzanite.
3Rinse with warm water the same temperature as the soaking water. Tanzanite does not like big temperature changes.
4Mix one part ammonia to three parts water and brush with a soft wet brush if your ring has greasy dirt, like lotion or food, stuck in it. Rinse the jewelry immediately after cleaning and do not let the jewelry soak in the mixture.
5Polish the stone and jewelry with a jewelry polishing cloth between cleanings to keep your jewelry looking its best. Clean only when the jewelry is dirty.
