How to Make a Hand Knotted Ribbon Necklace

While ribbon necklaces that are purchased from a store can be costly, making your own hand-knotted ribbon necklace at home is simple and less expensive. You can create a wealth of different looks by varying the color, size and type of beads you use as well as the color, texture and width of the ribbon. Using only four supplies, and in under 10 steps, you can make a stylish knotted ribbon necklace at home.

Instructions

    1

Purchase your supplies. A wide variety of beads and ribbon types are available at craft shops and online; consider how you would like your final product to look when choosing them.

    2

Cut 5- to 6.5 feet from the spool of ribbon, depending upon how long you would like your necklace to be.

    3

Tie a knot roughly 9 cm. from one end of the ribbon.

    4

Thread a bead of your choosing onto the ribbon until it reaches the first knot. Tie another knot directly beside the bead so that it is held between the two knots.

    5

Tie another knot in the ribbon where you would like the second bead to be. Repeat step four, threading a bead on the ribbon until it reaches this knot and tying another one directly after it.

    6

Repeat this process of knots and beads until you have your chosen number of beads on your necklace, leaving at least 8 cm. of the ribbon free in order to tie it together.

    7

Hold a lit match to each end of the ribbon briefly to prevent fraying.

    8

Tie the ends of your hand knotted ribbon necklace together.
