How to Size a Quartz Movement Wristwatch

Quartz movement watches use quartz crystal to give you the time. You will find that most quartz movement watches have a chain-link band. Sometimes the band may be too loose, especially if you have a smaller than average size wrist. Instead of taking your watch to a jeweler for a sizing, you can just size the watch yourself. You can use a pin pusher, a small metal stem with a flat end, or a straightened out paper clip. This saves you money from going to the jeweler, especially if your watch is older.

Instructions

    1

Place the watch on your wrist. Pinch the remainder with your forefinger and thumb. The amount of links you are holding are the amount of links you need to remove.

    2

Stand the watch on its side, on a flat surface. Locate the arrows indicating where the pins are.

    3

Push out the pins with a pin pusher. Remove the pins with pliers.

    4

Remove the link from the watch. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for any other links you need to remove.

    5

Attach the clasp to the watch. Push the pin all the way through with your pliers. Repeat this step for the other side of the link.

    6

Place the watch back on your wrist. Ensure that that the fit is secure. If not, repeat the steps to remove more links.
