How to Clean Jade Jewelry

Most jade that is set in jewelry is in polished cabochon or bead form. Some jade pieces are carved into pendants or bangles. Jade does not sparkle, its beauty comes from its color and clarity. Many jade pieces are polished with beeswax during the manufacturing process. The jade stones do not require deep cleaning. Here are some simple steps you can take without damaging your jade jewelry.

Instructions

    1

Pad your work surface with a cloth. It will catch possible drips and provide some protection in case you drop your jade by accident.

    2

Soak a cotton pad in water and squeeze out the excess. Gently wipe the jade surfaces. Use either plain water or water with a mild soap, such as baby shampoo.

An inexpensive makeup brush doubles as a cleaning tool

Use a cotton swab to clean crevices. For hard-to-reach or intricate areas, use a clean, unused makeup brush with short bristles.

    4

Remove all traces of soap solution (if you are using one) with another damp cotton pad. Dry and buff all jade surfaces with a dry cloth. Dry the jewelry pieces completely.

    5

Store your jade jewelry in soft pouches or a lined jewelry box. To minimize scratching, do not allow pieces to touch each other.
