How to Solder a Marble Pendant

If you have a broken marble pendant, or are trying to make one from scratch, these instructions are for you. Soldering silver or other light metals can be done by anyone with access to some common soldering equipment, a steady hand and a little time. Soldering involves heating metals, then filling and joining the gap between them with another metal, usually a softer metal with a low melting temperature. With a little practice, you can become a metalworking master.

Instructions

    1

Plug in the soldering iron to allow it to reach operating temperature.

    2

Place the ends of the broken pendant frame together as closely as possible. If making a pendant from scratch, secure the marble pendant in place by wrapping it with your selected wire and placing the two ends of the wire as close together as possible

    3

Clean the tip of your soldering iron. While hot, rub the tip with some steel wool to provide a clean surface for the solder to stick to. Use plenty of steel wool between your fingers and the tip to prevent the iron from burning your hand.

    4

Heat the wire or pendant clamp by resting the tip of the soldering iron on them for up to 30 seconds. With your other hand hold a length of soldering wire and touch the tip of it to the junction of the pendant wire ends. The solder should melt almost instantly when touching the hot metal and fill the gap between the two ends.

    5

Clean any dripped or uneven solder along the joint by applying heat with the tip of the soldering iron. Clean the tip of any solder residue with the steel wool whenever any excess solder is picked up by the tip of the iron.
