Does Clarity Make a Diamond Bright?

While diamonds may be a girl's best friend, not all diamonds have the same quality and value. Good clarity in a diamond help this precious stone shine and catch and reflect sunlight better.

The Clarity Scale

There are six grades describing clarity in a diamond. Flawless, internally flawless, very very slightly imperfect, very slightly imperfect, slightly imperfect and imperfect comprise of the clarity scale. The better the clarity, the more a diamond shines and sparkles.

Effects of Color with Clarity

While diamonds come in a rainbow of colors, diamonds that are colorless or near colorless will show the perfection or imperfection of a diamond more clearly. The color scale of a diamond ranges from colorless, near colorless, faint yellow, very light yellow, light yellow, and color. Diamonds with a color are considered fancy or a specialized type of diamond.

Clarity and Cut

The cut is directly relational to the clarity of a diamond and how much it will sparkle. The more facets a diamond has, the more light will refract off the stone. Diamonds with small imperfections will clearly reflect the light better than stones with major flaws or cloudiness.
