While there are plenty of ways to make free-form jewelry from polymer clay or other modeling materials, one method that yields consistent results is to make jewelry molds. You can make a mold from a design you create yourself or from almost any small object you have on hand, then use the mold to create as many duplicates of the original as you want.

Instructions

    1

Start with an original. Choose an item (like beads) to make a jewelry mold from. If you have an original design in mind, craft an original from regular polymer clay and bake it according to the direction on the package.

    2

Tightly cover your original with mold-making polymer. If your object is flat on one side, it's unnecessary to cover that side.

    3

Carefully remove the mold-making clay. If your object is covered on all sides, use a craft knife to carefully cut the mold into pieces you can separate and remove individually. Cut as few pieces as possible. For most objects, halves will be plenty.

    4

Bake the mold-making clay according to the package directions. This clay is specially formulated for molds, so it should remain flexible after baking and cooling.

    5

Use your mold to create replicas of the original by pressing a modeling material such as ceramic clay, regular polymer clay, precious-metal clay or papier mache into the mold. Remove the items from the mold, add bead holes with a needle if necessary and bake or dry appropriately.
