Designing your own diamond pendant can be an exciting experience as you experiment with what type of design works for you. You don't need any formal training or even the eye of an artist, just an idea of what you think looks fabulous, a little sketching practice and a jeweler you trust to bring your idea to life. The design process can be frustrating, but these steps will guide you as you put together a creation worth waiting for.

Instructions

    1

Decide what metal you want your diamond pendant set in. Gold, white gold and platinum are the three primary choices. Sterling silver is also an option.

    2

Visit a jewelry store and pick out the diamonds you plan to use, if you don't have them already. The number and size of the diamonds will help determine what design will work best.

    3

Sketch out a few ideas of what you think you may like. This does not need to be fancy or perfect, just an idea of what you think would be beautiful. In the sketch, be sure to note where each diamond will go.

    4

Bring your sketched ideas, diamonds and metal selection to a jeweler. Have him review your ideas and draw them out professionally to give you a better visual of your diamond pendant. The jeweler will make sure your design can be brought to fruition. Some metals are stronger than others, and it may be best to place diamonds a certain way to ensure durability.

    5

Once you have picked the final design from your sketches, have the design drawn to scale by the jeweler. Physically place the diamonds within the scale design to make sure you like what the finished piece will look like.
