Stud earrings are a simple, classic look that is excellent for everyday wear. Pearls are elegant jewels that go with almost everything. A pair of nice quality pearl studs is something no woman should be without due to their timeless simplicity. However, with a few simple additions, pearl studs can go from understated to bold in the blink of an eye. There are a few ways to add drops to pearl studs.

Instructions

    1

Buy some earring jackets. These earring accessories have a hole in them or a loop that allow the stud post to go through it, so that the jacket can be worn between the stud and the ear. There are many drop styles available that take your basic pearl, diamond or gold ball stud and easily turn it into something more graceful and dramatic and back again.

    2

Place a jump ring or two on some pendants or on some drop earrings you already own that you have removed the post from to create your own homemade drop jackets. Use fishhook earring findings to hang them from to wear these drop jackets as earrings on their own. You can use any combination of stones, beads or pearls you would like. Hanging them from hoops is yet another look for these drops.

    3

Have drops soldered onto your pearl stud posts for a permanent solution. Your pearl will need to be removed by soaking in acetone first, so that the heat from the torch does not damage the pearl. Then the drop can be attached to the pearl cup before you re-glue the pearl to the cup and post. You can also have your jeweler attach a pearl cup to a post dangle style earring.
